Aside from the device, there is a case that comes along with this unit. It also comes with a belt clip and a CR2 battery. It doesn’t come with a strap like many rangefinders do, but those can be purchased separately for a low price. You will get a lifetime warranty as well with this product. A tripod can be attached.
Features of the Vortex Optics Ranger 1000 Rangefinder
The measurement range for this one is 10 – 1000 yards for a reflective target, and 10 – 500 yards for a non-reflective target. It is accurate down to plus or minus three yards. This unit can read measurements in yards or meters. To switch between those metrics, simply press and hold the menu button for four seconds. After making your selection, hold the button for four seconds again to save your selection. The device features HCD (angle compensation), Line Of Sight (no angle compensation) and scan (for moving or small targets) mode.
A nice feature of the Vortex Optics 1000 is that it is able to compensate for up to 500 feet of elevation. This is not too common of a feature, and the fact that one on the lower price end can do so is impressive. This is something rifle hunters really will appreciate.
The magnification of this unit is 6x with an objective 22mm lens. Total eye relief is 17mm.
The display on the Vortex Optics Ranger 1000 is something that makes this product worth it. It is red, not black, making the display very easy to read in all light levels. It also has adjustable brightness.
This unit is quite compact. It weighs 7.7 ounces, which makes it compact enough for both hunters and golfers. It is easy to carry around for hours without being strained. Another plus.
The Ranger 1000 will shut itself off after ten seconds of inactivity. This could become an inconvenience for golfers (flags, Flag pole) or if you have to measure a very tiny target as it doesn’t really provide adequate time, but it is still doable.
The unit is waterproof. O-rings seals prevent moisture, dust, and debris from getting inside, making this usable in the rain. It is also fog-proof. Don’t submerge it, though.
Operation
To use the Vortex Optics 1000, you just push the two simple buttons on the unit. One for measuring and one for menu options. This is simple, even for people with little experience with rangefinders.
Uses of the Vortex Optics Ranger 1000 Rangefinder
Bowhunting/Hunting
The Vortex Optics Ranger 1000 Rangefinder is good for hunters and bowhunters because it is compact, making it easy to carry throughout long hunting trips. It is also quick and accurate, making sure you never miss a shot – depending on your skills, of course 🙂 .
One thing that can be a little off putting about it, is the range being a little confusing. It can reach up to 1000 yards, for reflective targets. For those hunting deer and other things that don’t shine, it can only reach up to 500 yards. This is still a good range, but I could see how someone could purchase this product believing it could measure anything up to 1000 yards which is simply not true.
Another feature that makes this rangefinder ideal for all types of hunters is it’s unique display. The backlit display is red, which makes it readable in a variety of different light levels and weather conditions. Early bird gets the worm, and early birds using this rangefinder can get the worm, due to the fact that this will work even in the early morning of dawn. The display also has an adjustable brightness, which makes this one work for all different preferences.
I would recommend the Vortex Optics Ranger 1000 to any hunter or bowhunter. It is quick and responsive and its ability to compensate for elevation is a good thing for bowhunters and rifle hunters alike.
Golfing
The Vortex Optics Ranger 1000 is great for golfing too. I would like to warn you that it can sometimes take a moment to lock onto a flagpole. However, with the use of scan mode, you can quickly lock onto a flagpole. Or measure something that is near the green like grass planes, bunkers or trees. Overall, it is simple to use for golfing.
Another notable feature of this rangefinder is it’s durability. It is a solid build with a rubber coating, so it can withstand a few drops. Of course be careful with the unit as no one wants to drop a couple hundred just to break it, but it can definitely handle a few accidents.
This unit has really good eye relief, so those with glasses can easily use the Ranger 1000 too.
Price
The Vortex Optics Ranger 1000 Rangefinder is not the cheapest model available, but it is still in the medium range. It costs around 300 bucks, but the value you will get for that price is pretty cool. It offers so many features that other rangefinders don’t have, making the $300 dollars an easy price to pay – of course not for everyone, but if you need those features, it is still a good deal. You get what you pay for, so you need to know what features you absolutely must have and which not.
Summary
The Vortex Optics Ranger 1000 Rangefinder is a good model for golfers, hunters, and bowhunters. It has good range and is simple and easy enough to be used by almost anyone.
The angle compensation is a pretty important goodie for bowhunters and rifle hunters, because it will make your shots a lot better.
This model has its price, but I think it is worth it. If you have to spend more there are a lot of more expensive options out there that you might want to check out.
Thanks for reading and shoot straight!
