The TecTecTec VPRO500 comes fully equipped. It comes with an attractive shock-resistant hard shell case and a wrist strap, making it easy to carry during your golf and hunting trips. The carrying pouch is incredibly convenient. To keep your lens clean, there is a microfiber cleaning cloth. A CR2 battery is included, along with a quick start guide for easy setup.
Features Of The TecTecTec VPRO500 Golf Laser Rangefinder
The TecTecTec VPRO500 is capable of measuring up to 540 yards. It is accurate up to plus or minus one yard. This unit works with Pinsensor technology, which measures overlapping targets. This makes it super easy to measure flagpoles as it won’t get distracted by trees or anything else in the background.
One downside of it is that it doesn’t compensate for elevation. This means you can only get straight distance. Golfers shouldn’t have too much of a problem with this, but hunters or bowhunters will miss this feature as it makes hunting down from tree stands or hills a lot easier. You could compensate for the elevation by considering the distance measured and pairing that with your elevation, but this might not be the most accurate thing to do.
This one has a 6x magnification with a 24mm objective lens.
The LCD display is not illuminated. In good lighting conditions, the multilayered optics are easy to read and super clear. However, in bad lighting, such as in the early morning, it may be hard to read the display as the letters are displayed in black. For golf players this is not a problem. Bowhunters hunting in thick wood might have a different opinion on this, though.
This is a very compact model. Its dimensions are 4 x 2.8 x 1.6 inches. The weight with the battery in is 6.5 ounces. This makes it easy to carry around for a long period of time without noticing too much extra weight.
The unit shuts itself off after 30 seconds of inactivity. This saves battery life and also gives golfers enough time to get a good shot. Many range finders turn off after as little as 5 seconds, which is a really short time frame for targeting anything.
It is also water and dust resistant, making it easy to use in rainy conditions, as long as you can read the display. Don’t go throwing it into a lake or anything like that, but otherwise it should withstand certain weather conditions.
Operation
Operating the TecTecTec VPRO500 is done with two simple buttons. Holding down the mode button allows you to change between yards and meters. Pressing the power button will allow you to measure the distance. Pressing down the power button will activate the Pinsensor mode, and will measure the closest object.
Uses Of The TecTecTec VPRO500 Golf Laser Rangefinder
Hunting / Bowhunting
To be honest, this one was made rather with golfers in mind. There is no angle compensation or one of the other well known technologies integrated, that hunters and bowhunters usually care about.
Keep in mind the Pinsensor mode is not good for hunting as well, because it will measure the closest object first, so if grass or leaves are in front of your target, that’s what you will get measured. Also, it is difficult to use it in low light conditions, so “early bird catches the worm” hunters could run into some issues.
Golfing
As the name suggests, the TecTecTec VPRO500 is a great range finder for golfers. The missing angle compensation is no problem for golf players and the included Pinsenor technology makes it incredibly easy and accurate to measure flag or flagpole distances. Golfers will never have to worry about the unit getting distracted by background objects, such as trees etc. There aren’t many other models in this price range that are able to do this. It won’t make a sound or a vibration when locking to a flag, though.
Price
For under 150 dollars, you will get an incredibly accurate and fast range finder with a variety of interesting features. Aside from that, it is also durable enough to last you a really long time. There are models out there that are way more expensive that do the same thing, so if you want to get one without losing an arm and a leg, this would be an option.
Summary
The TecTecTec VPRO500 Golf Laser Rangefinder is absolutely great for it’s price range. It has very few downsides in comparison to the positives and was truly made with golfers in mind.
It could be used for hunting and bowhunting, but if this is all you’re going to use it for, you might want to consider another option. The range is okay, but rifle hunters might miss to be able to go for longer distances and many bowhunters will miss angle compensation, which makes it a lot more easier to hunt down from tree stands or rocks etc.
Golfers can’t do much wrong here. The Pinsensor technology makes it incredibly easy to target flagpoles quickly and accurately. You won’t have to fiddle around and deal with the range finder getting distracted by background objects. The display is super easy to read in most lighting conditions and it takes a while to power off on its own, so most golf players will have plenty of time to get a good shot.
